Campaign for Clean, Affordable Energy
JCFC demonstrates we can use the abundance of fuel resources in our region as part of the effort to reverse the impacts of global warming and make the best use of our natural resources.
The spread and intensity of wildfires in the years following the Almeda Fire in 2020 have continued to break records due to hotter and dryer conditions throughout state of Oregon, and across the country. Drought conditions and federal government mismanagement of forests in Oregon have exacerbated the problems caused by pests and disease in the forests. The reality is clear, the status quo approach to forest management and wildfire mitigation is unsustainable and it is urgent we join together to change it.
The JCFC firewood benefit is one example of how JCFC is making use of the natural resources available in our area under the management of those who know what is needed, instead of letting them burn up due to lack of investment by the federal government. JCFC unites the people who own the forests, the people who work in the forests along with those of us who are denied access to safe, affordable heating and energy resources. Day-in and day-out, JCFC builds grassroots support, and demonstrates what it looks like to put people above profits.
JCFC is uniquely positioned to unite communities in taking immediate action to address the needless suffering resulting from our federal government’s lack of forest management: the JCFC office burned to the ground in the 2020 Almeda Fire and rebuilt 100% to continue our mission. JCFC members include the forestry, timber and mill workers, small woodland owners and others uniting to ensure access to fuels for poor and working people to heat their homes.
