Campaign to Stop the Shutoffs! Roll back utility rates!
JCFC continues to mobilize against rate hikes.

In 2017, after a five-year campaign of testifying and petitioning Oregon’s Public Utility Commission (PUC), JCFC got the PUC to enact a severe weather moratorium. For private, investor-owned utilities regulated by the PUC, the moratorium outlaws electric shutoffs during heat advisories as well as heat shutoffs, either gas or electric, when the high temperature is below freezing on a given day.
JCFC continues to mobilize against rate hikes. On April 13, 2020, after Pacific Power requested a 6% rate increase, JCFC members testified against the rate hike at a PUC hearing, which was held via telephone because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the testimony, the PUC issued a pair of decisions, reducing Pacific Power’s rates by 5.2% and requiring the company to increase its use of renewable energy versus coal.
